The “good guy with a gun” is a bad defense

The “good guy with a gun” is a bad defense:  The armed law enforcement office on duty at the Orlando massacre could not stop the gunman from killing and wounding dozens of innocent victims. Defense records involving a “good guy with a gun” show armed civilians fare very poorly.  In the past decade of over 160 mass shootings only 1 was stopped by an armed civilian and 2 by off-duty police, while 21 were dealt with by unarmed civilians. In Self-Defense tests by the National Gun Violence Council, 77 participants, with varying levels of firearms training in various situations, shot 7 innocent bystanders, fired at 23 suspects that posed no threat, and ended with most being “killed by the bad guy.”  The emotional lies perpetrated by the NRA propaganda machine on a gullible public––not to protect lives, but to protect gun industry profits––is pure, unabashed baloney. The gun industry does not care about saving lives. Gun nuts do not care about saving lives. The killings of tens of thousands of Americans each year by gun violence will continue year after year as long as Americans continue to show their indifference the value of life by not voting for reasonable gun safety. Richard Dorsey, Hacienda Heights, CA.
