Anti-vaccinators threaten the public

Anti-vaccinators threaten the public:  Parents who don’t vaccinate think they know better than their doctors. A howling child can put off any mother from vaccinating her child. Allowing viral toxins into a child’s pristine system can generate a lot of primordial fear. But diseases such as mumps, whooping cough, measles, chicken pox, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, and polio are rare today because parents in the 1950s saw deaths in the thousands and believed their doctor’s advise to vaccinate early. Desensitized by lack of disease, today’s parents are unlearning the lessons of the past. Suddenly they think they know better than their doctors. Many wealthy create a special risk because think they can avoid misfortune and control the variables. Vaccines are not only safe but they are critical to the health and safety of all children. If vaccination rates do not remain very high––95%––immunity protection for the entire nation can vanish. The conspiracy theories that “shots” are overused, that Big Pharma is greedy for profit, that vaccinations cause mental disorders and allergies, or even that big government is fomenting fear are as non-sensical as rooster crowing causes the sun to rise. Vaccination for all is not an imposition and not an option, it is an essential––for everyone. Selfish anti-vaccinators defeat the efforts of all responsible citizens. Self-deluding opt-out mothers put all mothers at greater risk. Vaccinations are a human invention that gives us the chance to rise above our animal nature. Let us use our intelligence rather than succumb to making decisions based on gossip.  Richard Dorsey, Hacienda Heights, CA.
