Gun Safety, not Gun Control
No reasonable gun enthusiast needs a 30-round military assault weapon. No reasonable public should allow the massacre of 20 first grade children in a peaceful public school. No reasonable society needs to arm little kids in their classrooms just so the rights of a few can override the safety of the majority. Freedom is not the slaughtering of six and seven year olds on a playground, Christmas shoppers at the mall, or moviegoers at the theatre. The price of freedom should not include ignoring the deaths of hundreds of thousands shooting victims decade after decade. The worship of guns is not a constitutional right, it’s a product of a culture of violence, glorifying war, and debased entertainment. Recreational gun ownership is an epidemic. Congress is in deadly fear of the NRA. Americans own one gun for every man, woman, and child. We are the weapons capital of the world. Guns are as important today as slavery was to the South that led to a civil war. Reasonable gun safety is a principle of necessity. Either everyone carries a firearm, or we learn to let the law do its job. Another massacre is just around the corner. Odds that someone you love will die of a gunshot are greater than twisting your ankle. What sort of country accepts the slaughter of their babies? The idea that if everyone had a gun the shooter would have been shot is wishful thinking. Tell that to the shooter’s mother armed to the teeth and shot dead. Israel has enormous restrictions on private gun ownership. Palestinians have none. If you don’t want to live in a country where six year olds bring guns to their classrooms, write your congressperson, suggest gun safety, not gun control, and demand someone reliable start rebutting NRA propaganda.
