Where is the shared sacrifice?
Why aren’t we all sharing the sacrifice of the worst recession since the Great Depression? Why does the top 2% get billions in tax breaks while the rest of us are left holding an empty bag? Why do the wealthy slice up the pie of prosperity, while workers feed on crumbs? Why do business profits soar to record-breaking levels while worker salaries are cut? Why do executives get severance bonuses and employees get pink slips. Why are unions told to give back, while business rips off all the market can bear? Why do corporations reward executive failure with the savings of wholesale employee firings? Why are billions cut from needed public programs instead of closing corporate loopholes? Why are we paying skyrocketing prices for gas to companies receiving billions in tax breaks? Why are we giving tax cuts to big corporations to create jobs when for ten years under Bush II tax cuts we got a no-growth economy? Are we so greedy and apathetic that we can’t demand shared sacrifice? Democracy comes from the Greek words “demos” (people) and “Kratia” (power). Those who don’t ask questions and demand answers don’t deserve a democracy.
